The Makaveli Legacy

Submitted by jeffbabasa

One of the most popular lines of urban and hip-hop clothing lines of today is the makaveli branded clothing lines. The makaveli branded is the official clothing line of Tupac Shakur founded by his mother, Afeni Shakur. The makaveli brande has become popular due to the fact that it represented one of the music industry's finest hip-hop artist in its time and a legacy that lived on until today, and that is Tupac Amaru Shakur.

After the death of Tupac, his mother Afeni Shakur, thought of a way to preserve his legacy not only through his music. One way is when Afeni founded the Shakur Family Foundation, which was later re-named the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation or TASF, in 1997 which was to provide training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents. The Foundation officially opened the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA) in Stone Mountain, Georgia, on June 11, 2005.

Another was on November 14, 2003, when a documentary about Shakur entitled Tupac: Resurrection was released under the supervision of his mother and narrated entirely in his voice. It was nominated for Best Documentary in the 2005 Academy Awards. The proceeds were donated to a charity set up by Shakur's mother Afeni.

On April 17, 2003, Harvard University co-sponsored an academic symposium entitled "All Eyez on Me: Tupac Shakur and the Search for the Modern Folk Hero." The speakers discussed a wide range of topics dealing with Shakur's impact on everything from entertainment to sociology.

But other than these things, Afeni Shakur have also set up a way to further her son's legacy, and that is with the makaveli branded clothing lines. In late 2003, the Makaveli Branded Clothing line was launched by Afeni. It was launched seven years after the death of her son. The brand's purpose is keeping the legacy of Tupac Shakur alive through fashion. A portion of each sale from Makaveli Branded is donated to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Atlanta Georgia.

American rappers who have appeared in print ads in support of the clothing line include don dyablo, kdc, Bone Thugs and DJ Quik and among many others. In Canada, Deejay Ra was featured in a makaveli Branded print ad.
