The Wristwatch: The Perfect Accessory For A ManSubmitted by kishor Sat, 18 Jul 2009
The watch has been around for centuries. But it\'s most recent, and most fashionable incarnation is the wristwatch. Prior to World War I, only women wore wristwatches. The wristwatch was seen as a women\'s accessory and was often considered to be unmanly. However during the war, soldiers had to have a convenient way of telling time when their hands were full. Thus, the wristwatches were finally welcomed by men as an accessory.
The wristwatch is the definitive accessory for men. When men started to use them, it was merely seen as a way to tell time. However during the mid-20th century, it has evolved into both a tool and a fashion accessory. The men\'s watch is a perfect blend of form and function, style and utility. Even a fictional character like Ian Fleming\'s James Bond, whose persona is considered by many to be the icon of machismo, would be incomplete without his Omega Seamaster or his Rolex Submariner. It is synonymous to him being incomplete without his Aston Martin, his nifty spy gadgets or his women. These days, the wristwatch is being overshadowed by another timekeeping device: the cellular phone. Major brands have put out several \"luxury\" cellular phones that pretty much speak about the owner like a dress watch. However, these luxury cellular phones are often hidden in the pockets of those rich enough to afford them. They can only be seen during a phone call or while sending SMS and as we all know, doing either at a party isn\'t a very polite gesture. The wristwatch, although a more discreet accessory, does not need to be pulled out in order to be flaunted. Wouldn\'t it be odd to see a man haughty enough to whip out his new mobile phone and talk about it? A wristwatch is a conversation piece on its own. Choosing a watch has more to do with your individual lifestyle. Like all accessories, watches must not only look good, but look good on you to match with your wardrobe. You don\'t wear a sports watch during a corporate meeting or a party. Likewise, a dress watch at the gym isn\'t really a good idea. Its best to keep two watches: one for work and one for play at your disposal. For the bracelet or strap, going for stainless steel is always a good idea. It looks great with whatever formal wear you have. Going for gold is also an option but make sure you pair it with a nice earthen tone suit lest you elicit negative impressions. The face has to be large enough to compliment your body type. Too small and it would look like a ladies watch. You can never go too large with the face since they have become a trend in recent years. Another recent trend for watches is accent colors on the face and strap. While they can be seen from the cheapest to the most expensive luxury watches, do prioritize acquiring a timeless piece before moving to the more trendy styles.
The wristwatch is a man\'s utimately GQ accessory! This article will prove to you why that is so and how a man is crippled without a good watch on his wrist!
