French Maid costumes have been one of the most desired costumes for Halloween over the past 30 years however if you want to have your costume stand out, one of the key things you must do is to accessorise your costume. In this article we will look to identify what accessories are most appropriate.

The Feather Duster

A small 20 cm pink feather duster is always a great accessory for the French Maid Costume. It helps identify you as a working girls, whilst also showing your into having a little bit of fun.

A French Cap

The French Cap is a staple of this type of costume. Generally the French Cap will be a single colour adorned with white lace. The French cap should be simple and the colour should be the same as the outfit.

Satin Long Length Gloves

To ensure the look of elegance and high fashion, then the addition of satin full length gloves is a must for every French Maid Costume. The gloves colour should be the same colour as the main costume. For example if the costume is black then the satin gloves should be black, as well as the French cap. If the costume is red, then the satin gloves should be red.

The French Collar

The French Collar is an addition that we first saw in the late 1980's in the party scene. It was certainly not something that was worn by maids in the peak of the personal service period of the 40's. The French collar is usually warn around the neck and has a base of elastic however I have seen some French collars that actually has clips at the back of the collar. With every collar there should also be a matching French garter as well.

Costume Jewellery

Nothing says high fashion like costume jewellery. Hollywood has been using this technique for years so its now time for us to do the same. Costume jewellery is made to replicate very cheaply some of the most expensive jewellery on the planet. For example, who would like a 22 carat diamond on their finger. Well with costume jewellery you can certainly do this.

The most appropriate jewellery for the French Maid costume would be a large diamond ring worn on top of your satin full length gloves. If you were wearing either black or red satin gloves a clear diamond ring would be appropriate. Alternatively, if your costume was white then a red ruby ring would be more appropriate for your white satin gloves.

A Silver Pot of Goody's

To top off your French Maid Costume ensemble you should have a small silver pot of items to help you with your party. You can buy bottles that look like cleaning implements but you could fill them with liquids to help you through the night.

Accessorising your French Maid Costume will ensure that you will be the high fashion maid of the Halloween Party.
