How to Get a Baby to Sleep in a Crib

Submitted by johnbried

One of the most frustrating tasks for new parents perhaps is the task of getting their baby sleep in a crib. Usually, a baby who is already asleep when held would wake up once they are transferred into a crib. This is mainly due to the changes in the surroundings that disturb the baby on his or her sleep. Getting a baby sleep in a crib literally needs a truckload of patience at the start.

In case you baby is a newborn, you can start by initially swaddling your baby. All babies always need some feeling of security and comfort through swaddling. This makes them think that they are like inside a mother's womb. Babies wake up when transferred into a crib simply because the warm that a hug and cuddle could give is gone. But for relatively older babies, this may not always work, since they view too much cuddling not too comfortable.

Babies also have different preferences. There are those who love motion and would like to be swung before going to sleep. The motion makes them feel also that they are still inside the womb, giving comfort and security for them. But if you really need to transfer the baby into a crib, you can device a vibrating mechanism to the mattress of the crib to give the baby an illusion that he or she is not in a crib.

Most babies are used to co-sleeping. Try having a slow transition from the bed and then to the baby's crib. You can also try using bassinet to be placed next to your bed that could help in the transition phase.

Do not accustom your baby to always being cuddled or held. This, in the end, would make you suffer by carrying them even if they are already some year older.

These are just some of the tips that you can try on your baby. It is really a challenge for most parents, especially those who are new parents to get babies into sleep inside a crib. You just have to be patient enough to master the attitude of your baby. You should not easily give up!
