Marine Binoculars: The Power to Look Afar

Submitted by corrieduana

Marine binoculars may look similar than any other binoculars, save for its main application – at sea. One important detail in marine binoculars is they would be used in unsteady platforms such as on a boat. Thus, image steadiness is a vital concern for easy observation.

How to choose marine binoculars? First, understand what the two sets of binocular labels mean. In a binocular label 7x50, for example, 7 is the magnification power which means the number of times an object will be magnified as seen through the eye piece. The second set of number is the diameter of the objective lens (the lens at the forefront). The bigger the diameter lens, the brighter and more precise an image will appear.

Because of the nature of its use, in general, marine binoculars don't require very high magnification powers unless they are featured with stabilizers, which commonly cost over $1000. The reason behind is high magnification powers magnify the shakes as well. Thus, a 7x magnification is adequate for a marine binocular than a 10x magnification.
