Mix-and-Match Home Decor

Submitted by neillisa

When you think about it, there\'s really no single thing that makes or breaks home décor. Some say it\'s the colors, some say it\'s the layout, and others think it\'s all about lighting. But home décor is a product of all these factors, and you can\'t design a good home without taking them all into account. That\'s why the best way to go about decorating is to mix and match-create different combinations until you find one that works for your space.

The easiest way to do this is by experimenting with colors. Instead of sticking to one main color, make color combinations. Pair your favorite color with something that complements it or brings out its natural beauty. If you like pink, for example, a secondary color like brown or black can really make it stand out. Just try not to use more than three colors, as it makes the room look messy and uncoordinated.

Textures are also a great source for mixing and matching. This is especially true if your home is mostly plain walls and unfinished floors. By adding a different texture to certain surfaces, you add visual interest to your space and keep the room from looking flat. For a plain wall, try creating a different finish with textured paint. For the floor, use flooring accents or mosaic tiles to break the monotony of color. Put the accents in a prominent spot so that they serve as a nice focal point.

You can also try matching room fabrics with your existing surfaces. Fabrics are great for experimenting because you can remove them anytime, and you can play around with colors and patterns as much as you like. For example, if your walls are a pastel color, you can choose a more vibrant shade for your curtains and wall accents.

One great way to mix things up is to use area rugs. Today\'s rugs come in virtually every design and pattern, so they\'re really fun to experiment with. Look for a rug that complements your flooring or your color scheme. Or if your home is big enough, you can even use two area rugs-they\'re great for breaking up large spaces and making your décor more manageable.

Part of the fun of decorating is putting things together and seeing how they work. Here are some tips on mix-and-match home d
