Casio Wrist Watches: It's Timekeeping History

Tadao Kashio established Casio in 1946. Kashio was a fabrication technology engineer, who developed the yubiwa pipe after World War II. The pipe was basically a holder (finger ring shaped) for cigarettes, which enabled smokers to smoke a cigarette down to its nub. Impoverished Japan, considering that this was after World War II, accepted the item, and Kashio's invention was a success.

From what fortune Kashio made from the yubiwa pipe, the foundations of what is now known as Casio Computer Co., was established. Starting with calculators, Casio developed the world's first electronic calculator in 1957, the Model 14-A. From then on, Casio delved into wrist watches, as with what the band's associated with today, and further on to keyboard synthesizers, digital cameras, storage media and media players.

Casio wrist watches are known all over the world. Among the earliest to manufacture quartz-crystal watches, Casio wrist watches were superstars-in-the-making when they first came out. With features like temperature thermometers, altitude displays, and atmospheric-pressure gauges, Casio wrist watches were truly an item, and still are now.

Dual function watches are among the most popular of Casio wrist watches. The integration of a digital LCD time display, as well as the regular watch dial and hands, was widely accepted by the general public. Wave Ceptor Casio wrist watches are examples of these dual function watches. The result of innovation and determination, Casio wrist watches are packaged with "intelligent" watch features. Some models are capable of receiving radio signals from an atomic clock, keeping Casio wrist watches accurate, to the dot, while some models can be set to follow Daylight-Saving Time rules, determine international times, and function as alarms and/or timers.

During the 80s, Casio came out with an integrated watch and calculator model. A craze over this digital product followed, as the watch could simply do more than just tell the time, or make calculations. It had an integrated alarm, a stop watch/timer function as well as basic address book-like memory storage. Another milestone in Casio wrist watches came in 1983 in the form of Casio's G-Shock watches. Known for their durability, Casio's G-Shock has somewhat become a model for all digital watches that came after it. Shock proof, scratch proof, waterproof, plus with features no other watch boasted at that time, the G-Shock indeed shook the standards of digital watches to Casio's benefit.

Another "famous" watch from Casio would be the Casio F91W.
A classic among classics, this particular Casio wrist watch is notorious in the United States, considering that it happens to be a favorite among terrorists. US Intelligence has identified the presence of this Casio wrist watch on numerous detainees with Al-Qaeda connections, and has gathered charred fragments of this very same watch during post bombing on scene investigations.

The F91W is simply a digital watch, with alarm and stopwatch features, accurate to the dot.

It may be the worst "testimonial advertisement" in the world, but truly, Casio wrist watches do more than just tell time.
