Child ID Programs

Submitted by ramelillo

Have you ever been asked to remember important details during a stressful situation? What if your child went missing and you had to provide up to date descriptions and clear photographs? Could you do it within minutes? One in 42 children are reported missing every day, and child ID programs assist in getting the information out quicker when time is of the essence to find them.
A child ID program consists of creating an annual ID card with photographs, physical descriptions, contact information, and medical information as needed. The other important feature to a child ID program is the inclusion of all 10 fingerprints on the card. This program is done on a computer, and provides laminated ID cards as well as CD ROMS that store the information to be easily sent electronically.
The FBI's statistics are disconcerting regarding missing children. Over 2000 children are reported missing to them every day, meaning one every 40 seconds. While a majority of these children are either not where they said they would be or hiding, many are put in danger. A parent cannot take for granted a missing child situation, with all the rising crime statistics as well.
Child ID programs are more prevalent than they used to be in the school systems, or for individual purchase when not available. Many school implement the cards when students' pictures are taken, creating a natural system for gathering information. Some communities provide sponsorship of the program to ensure that each child their ID cards created. At a cost of about $20 per student, the child ID programs provide affordable peace of minds that are easily updated each year.
Child ID programs have franchises available, exclusive to particular areas, and will work with communities to implement the program. Law enforcement officials highly recommend the program, and insist that the cards be updated each year to reflect changes in growth. Check with your local agencies to see if this service is provided, or research further to see if franchise is available.
