In dealing with HD DVD problems, one must first have some basic knowledge of what HD DVD is all about. HD DVD is the latest innovation in the field of optical disc format industry. It is also one of the "next generation" optical disc formats that are currently engaged in a format war for supremacy in optical disc format. HD DVD is mainly developed and designed to replace the popular optical disc format of today, the standard DVD.

HD DVD has large storage capacity for all types of recorded content, as well as high definition audio and video files and also computer data and files. There are several types of HD DVD discs for playback and recording purpose, the single layer HD DVD discs and the dual layer HD DVD discs. The single layer HD DVD disc has a storage capacity of 15 gigabytes of data while the dual layer HD DVD can store up to 30 gigabytes of data. Utilizing the compression technology that is currently in use, the 30 gigabyte dual layer HD DVD disc is capable of 7 hours playback; which is much longer than the standard DVD capacity. The standard DVD has a capacity of 4.7 gigabytes and has only about 2 hours of standard definition playback.

Several HD DVD problems have emerged since HD DVD's released in the market. The HD DVD problems range from technical problems of the HD DVD players and recorders and other HD DVD products. Although not all of us have technical knowledge regarding HD DVDs, the best way to solve HD DVD problems is by consulting professional help or asking assistance from the manufacturer of the HD DVD product that you have purchased.

Although a number of HD DVD problems have surfaced since its release, HD DVD also has some advantage over its counterpart in the said format war. HD DVD and standard DVD share the same disc structure. As a result HD DVD has full backward compatibility and is capable for recording and playback of standard DVDs and VDs.

Although much has been said regarding HD DVD problems, the said "next generation" optical disc format is considered as the best there is today. HD DVD brings about a whole new level not just in optical disc format but also in fields of home entertainment industry by providing a whole new "high definition" and "in depth" clarity of viewing experience.
