Digital Cameras have brought a revolution in the photography industry. These cameras take both still photographs and video digitally with the help of an electronic image sensor and record them. They can display the images such taken on a screen just immediately after they are recorded and can also store them on a memory chip and you can delete them as and when required.

They share a common bond with the film cameras as they also use lens with a variable diaphragm for focusing light on an image pickup device. This image pickup device is electronic in case of a digital camera unlike the chemical ones in the film cameras.

An engineer at Eastman Kodak created the first digital camera in the mid 1970`s which proved that digital images can be captured and stored on to a separate medium. After this the Sony Mavica that was launched in the year 1981. It was the first true handheld electronic camera but it used analog technology for recording pixel signals. The Fuji DS-1P was considered the first true digital camera which was introduced in the year 1988 and it utilized an internal memory card for storing images.

Now the digital cameras have become an essential gadget in everybody`s life. It is a very sensitive device and good care and maintenance is necessary to enhance its performance and longevity. It is recommended to take proper steps for utmost care of your digital camera so that its life can be maximized and output improved.

Cleaning the equipment with a muslin cloth and removing dust particles with a brush every time before use can certainly produce better results. Good care needs to be exercised while cleaning the lens of the camera as it is a very important and sensitive part of the camera. A fiber cloth or soft brush is recommended for cleaning the lens, if the professional lens cleaning paper is not available. Using a paper towel or paper napkin for cleaning the lens is not recommended.

Jerks and shocks to the Digital Camera must be avoided by carrying it in a safe carry case. It should be kept away from direct sunlight and other high temperature areas as it may affect the circuit board. Water and other liquids must not be spilled on the camera as it will damage the functioning of the camera.

The LCD screen can be covered with a scratch guard and it should be cleaned properly with a soft cloth. Avoid direct contact of the screen with your hands as it may result in improper display of the screen. You must remove the batteries from the camera when not in use for a long time. Batteries must always be stored in a dry place.

Proper care should also be taken while using the memory card in your digital camera. The memory card should be compatible with the memory slot in your camera as any mismatch will affect the results of the camera. An air balloon or a soft brush should be used for cleaning the memory cad slot of your camera.

When you connect your digital camera to your computer, you must take necessary precautions to ensure that no malicious programs or virus can harm your camera. While transferring files from camera to your computer, you should never disconnect in between as it may damage the memory of your camera.

All said and done you must ensure that your digital camera is kept away from the hands of novice. The camera should be taken periodically to the authorized service station for servicing which can increase the efficiency and longevity of the camera.
