Making Easter SpecialSubmitted by enelra Wed, 4 Mar 2009
Some people seem to think that Easter has become one of those so-so holidays – the one that you look forward to because day leading up to it or following it are bound to give you a nice, long weekend, depending on where you're working or studying. Very few people forget that it is in fact a holiday that is a cause for celebration, as most of the Easter festivities tend to either focus on the children or the religious – the Easter egg hunts are, of course, the most popular activity, though they are more enjoyed by children and parents than anyone else, while Easter mass is for those who earnestly believe, deep down in their hearts, that they are commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the mortal son of God. Either way, if you notice, it is not necessarily a holiday that most people would enjoy. And this is probably because presents have not become part of the Easter tradition. While it is true that there are such things as gifts for Easter, this does not mean that it has become something that everyone engages in.
What we fail to realize is that the concept of gifts make the holiday more inclusive. It makes people grateful. Unusual Easter gifts make the holiday more engaging to people. Without showing people how much their life is appreciated in the holiday of new life, Easter just becomes a holiday that is an excuse for people to put up silly decorations and play silly games. You may say that Easter gifts are turning Easter into a capitalist holiday, but the point of the gifts are NOT the fact that they are gifts. The point of them is to convey a celebration of new beginnings. Isn't the thought wonderful?
