The Brief History of Leather Jackets

The leather jacket applies to the jacket made out of leather. Usually brown, grey and dark brown are the main colours for that, but now jackets are still available in lighter colours such as light yellow and blue. As a matter of fact, leather jackets can serve many quite different purposes on fashion, military and motorcycling etc.


Animal hides clothes could go as far back as the palaeothic times. Experts have found the paintings in caves showing mankind wearing animal skins for keeping warm. Of course, they are a far cry from what we wear today.


After ancient Egyptian tombs were excavated, paintings and other things were found showing that leather was used for many aspects during those times. Animal skin then was used by the Egyptian military for a lot of things: shields, harnesses, clothing, and other objects crucial for survival. Some sources show that ancient Greeks and Romans also got the animals' skin for the same things. Romans are the earliest people who brought leather to Europe, and after that british monks became very professional in making leather. People in Europe at that time used animal skins for writing and sailing.


Over the next few centuries, leather industry developed rapidly and leather jackets started to be produced in a large amount of numbers. Leather was also used during the times of World Wars . In the film 'The Wild One', Marlon Brandos character wore a leather biker jacket throughout and has become an unforgettable image till now. Today, a Leather jacket is in almost everybody's wardrobe, and wearing leather things is also the way to show your taste and personality.
