The Nikon D80 Looks To Attract Customer's With It's Wide Feature Set And Slight Speed Advantage.Submitted by cwest37802 Mon, 27 Apr 2009
Nikon D80 is the first DSLR from this Japanese company that I had opportunity to test. Based on D70 model, model eighty used to engage big efforts to acquit what faithful users of this company expected. Nikon D80 is one of the most successful DSLRs of recent times. Then this year the camera comes to the market and has adopted the same strategy of offering a step up in terms of features. Nikon D80 is complete everything works perfectly, and it is a great camera from any point of view. You are sorry not to find the sensor cleaning shake and the image stabilizing CCD-shift functions found in other models.
Menu organization is excellent and the settings you need most often are always no more than a click or two away. Menus can be customized to display only selected items using the new "My Menu" set. Priced a bit steeper than its direct competitors. Price is a big factor here the XTi costs about $700 while the D80 retails for approximately $900. That's USD200 you save by purchasing the XTi, and you can apply that $200 towards other purchases such as accessories. Plus it covers the software that came with the D80 through most of its production. There's enough here to get you started using Nikon's software and probably a few things the experts amongst you didn't know as well. Plus the D80 did an excellent job of balancing the camera's fill flash with our lighting. In the field we also noticed that fill flash from the D80 was consistently even. Directly related to the final image quality of the image out of the camera is its new high resolution image processing engine inheriting advantages from Nikon's latest professional digital SLR cameras. This is said to result in natural looking images with faithful color and tone reproduction. Directly below is a lock that can be used for instance to stop any movement of the Multi Selector and avoid accidentally changing the selected AF point. Nikon D80 is still the best in this class on cnet.com. What will Nikon D90 offer 12 megapixels, live view, video mode (necessary for a built-in mic), HDMI out, optional GPS, and a new 18-105mm VR lens.
