Recession causes more people to look for discounts on shopping

The global recession has had catastrophic effects on the economy. House prices have tumbled, lending has tightened and unemployment has risen. Because of this, shoppers have to be particularly thrifty with their money and make it last as long as possible. Consumers aren't just spending their money on the first thing they see that they like, they're looking around for the best price and for discounts and rewards that offer them the best value for money.

The recession has already caused many high street casualties, including stores that have been ever present for more than a hundred years. The recession hasn't stopped shoppers spending their money though; there are still consumers out there looking for products, they're just being more careful than they were twelve months ago. Full price products no longer to appeal to the bargain hunting shoppers of today though, who are more likely to seek out discounts and rewards before making a decision on a purchase.

The Internet has made this even easier, with price comparison websites showing the best price for products, and offer code websites giving you voucher codes for discounts and rewards at various retailers.
