Shoppers Guide to Buying Office FurnitureSubmitted by John Lewis Fri, 12 Feb 2010
Before furnishing your home office, start with taking measurements of the entire room. Many office desks can be very large and overwhelming in your office and some may not even fit through your front door, so make sure to not only measure the office, but the path you will carry your furniture through to make sure that non-collapsing furniture sets can fit.
The next step is to find a pencil and a straightedge and draw an aerial view of your office to see how you will fit all the pieces in. As you look at items, write down the measurements and cut out pieces of construction paper with an identifying label for the furniture piece so that you can mix and match with your results. Try saving pieces into your bookmarks if you are shopping online, then assigning them by number so that you have an easy time finding the furniture pieces you really liked when you find the perfect combination out. This method of planning will also help you when moving your furniture in so save the paper with the furniture papers taped on. Finding your desk: When looking for a desk for your home office, consider how much leg room each desk have, how much you need, and if you can cross your legs while sitting at a comfortable height. Also look for something that will hide wires easily so that you will not have to worry about ruining the appearance of your office with an unsightly mess. If you are not planning on also purchasing filing cabinets and shelves, make sure your desk has good built in storage so you do not need to worry about a mess. Finding your chair: Chairs will affect the health of your back if you sit in them often. Therefore, try to purchase a chair with lower lumbar support if you plan on spending several hours a day in your home office so that you can stay comfortable and work longer. Purchase an adjustable chair if you are sharing your office with more than one person of a different physique. Buy proper storage: Safes, lockable filing cabinets, shelves, and bins are useful pieces of home office furniture that will keep you organised and in doing so; make you more productive while working. Anybody from artists to computer programmers will find various types of storage useful so think about how many items you will need to keep and how much space they may take up. After all the preparation, you will be able to create the look you want with your new office furniture. Planning is essential to being happy with a project, especially when such an expensive investment as home office furniture is being considered.
