Shopping for a "geek" is no small task for most folks. Geeks either already own everything that interests them - or if they don't - they are planning on building it, programming it, or writing the code for it. Every office has its own "resident geek" (maybe it's you). You know him (or her) well. Your geeky coworker who has more money invested in their computer than the car that they drive. This same coworker has a web page for their pet goldfish and they talk about Steve Jobs like they have lived next door to him for years. Although you might consider your entertainingly lovable geek the hardest person on your list to shop for - the search is over. There are tons of cool gadgets, techie shirts, and new geek gifts out there sure to put a smile on the face of the undeniable computer geek or gadget geek in your life.
Geeks Are in A Class Of Their Own
Recent years have seen the advent of various niche retailers like Klear Gear (http://www.KlearGear.com) that cater specifically to the ever-increasing number of geeks, techies, programmers, and hackers who, for obvious reasons, wouldn't think traditional gifts like a dressy shirt or a travel mug have any real value. (After all, the true geek spends more time adding features to his avatar than worrying over his own appearance and drinks his coffee from a gallon jug). Realizing the need to go above and beyond the average in the design of gifts that would appeal to the geek-masses, these retailers have come up with some pretty interesting (some hilarious) gifts for the gadget and toy junkie in your life to spruce up everything from his computer to his cubicle. Let's take a look at some of these techie gifts that make shopping for geeks easier (and will be sure to have your favorite geek Twittering about your kindness 'till his thumbs are sore).
Desktop Distractions and More
When your gadgeteer is not busy dreaming up new programs, creating shareware, or watching Star Trek re-runs, he'll find these geek gifts are right up his alley:
• office and cubicle warfare - choose from options like a rubber band gun, sling shots, and catapults to make a day at the office less than ordinary;
• geeky gag gifts - options like Grow a Nerd or Grow a New Boss (just add water and wait), insanely funny swearing punch balls, and computer "bug" zappers;
• geek toys and cool gadgets - radio controlled tarantulas, space sand, cute binary robots and more will have your geek wondering why he bothers to work at all;
• gizmo gifts - from cameras disguised as cuddly teddies to undercover listening devices, invisible ink, and water-powered calculators - you're sure to find geek gadgets that even your geek hasn't thought of yet;
• geek threads - while geek gift shopping, you'll discover geeko-friendly tee shirts, ties, nightwear, head wear, jewelry and other accessories specifically designed with the geek in mind;
• cubicle décor - give your geek something fun to look at while he's strapped to his chair for ten hours a day plotting the takeover of Google with a huge available selection of posters, clocks, signs and more.
As you can see, shopping for the smart geek in your inner circle has never been easier now that retailers have recognized the huge marketing potential of not-so-customary gifts for the larger-than-life personality of the geek.
