The Importance of Clocks

Submitted by corrieduana

You arrived in the restaurant way before the time of your appointment with your business partner. Since you are quite early, you just lazily sat on the chair while you browsed on the menu placed on the table. “Gee, the meals here are quite expensive.” “May I take your order?” the waiter said. “I am still waiting for somebody. I will do that as soon as he comes.” “What is taking that guy so long? Anyway, thirty minutes have not yet passed. He is on his way, I believe.” The long hand of your watch pointed to 45, no trace of him yet. You find yourself starting to get irritated and so with the eyes of the bistro personnel. “I better get out of here. I do not care anymore if he still shows up.” Just then your phone rang. “Hey, I am really sorry. My clock did not alarm. Can you still hang on there?” So much about alibis, you thought.

An instrument for measuring time as well as intervals of less than a day, clock is always indispensable to daily living. When you wake up in the morning or when you go to bed at night, it will still be as similarly important. As for those that are utilized for technical purposes that have high accuracy, it is called as chronometers. There is a portable gadget for personal consumption known as the watch worn on the wrists. In the evolution of periods, it has been developed as a very fashionable accessory. Today, you can see that it is of different colors and materials that will spell attitude of the individual.

With a striking mechanism, a clock gives off a certain sound when it moves to another set. The most common is a ringing bell or clanging gong. When there is no obvious detection for announcement, it is called as timepiece. It is actually the correct term for an ordinary watch worn in the wrist. It also has other classifications such as the analog, digital and auditory. An analog indicates time by the application of angles. There are fixed numbered dials that rotates in a circular scale. A digital displays a numeric representation of time. There are two formats consisting it such as the 24- hour notation that ranges from 00- 23 and 12- hour notation that has an AM/PM marker. An auditory presents the time audibly. There are sounds that will be spoken in natural language or hearing codes.

A clock is built from some kind of oscillator which is an array that goes through an infinite series of periodic state changes. It is designed to grant constancy as well as solid source frequency. It is then counted and converted into what is desired. Examples of which are mechanical, electrical, crystal, atomic and radio, among the others. The purpose of which is not always just to display the hours, minutes and seconds but it can also serve as a controlling device such as those used in a VCR.
