The Nokia 3310 Mobile Phones From The Philippines

Submitted by Christine Layug

There has been many mobile phones made available across the Philippines today. Some of these are from popular manufacturers particularly Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson. Other rising brands are from Apple and BlackBerry. However, there is one mobile phone which is still very popular among the many Filipinos even though Nokia have already discontinued this model of mobile phone several years ago. This is the Nokia 3310 Cellular Philippine Phone.

Surprisingly, the Nokia 3310 Cellular Philippine Phone are still available in several shops across the Philippines. This is usually because of swapping. Filipinos that wanted a new mobile phone would usually swap their older ones along with cash with newer models of mobile phones. The one thing that made this very popular among the Filipinos is its price. For only P500 Philippine Pesos, a Filipino could easily buy a Cellular Philippine Phone for themselves.

The Nokia 3310, other than its popularity even in today's industry, was one of the best-selling mobile phone across the world having sold 126 million pieces. But what made this phone very popular is its variety of models. Aside from the 3310, Nokia have also released the Nokia 3315, 3320, 3330, 3350, 3360, 3390 and 3395, most of which are still available in the Philippine market. So what are the differences of these mobile phones?

The Nokia 3315, 3390, and 3395
The 3315 is an enhanced version of the 3310 by adding additional features such as a picture picture editor to edit pictures for use in SMS Picture messaging, could easily use received ring tones, automatic keylock after several idle minutes, as well as fixed several bugs found in the 3310.

There are two North American variants of the 3310; one is the Nokia 3390, which operates on GSM 1900. The Nokia 3395 is an updated version of the 3390 which includes the additional features of the Asian 3315 model, and it has poor reception if you are in a GSM 850 area.

The Nokia 3330 and 3350
The Nokia 3330 was basically a 3310 with a SMS-based WAP capability, animated screensavers, a pinball game named 'Bumper', and phonebook in the phone memory (100 entries) as opposed to being stored on SIM-card in earlier models. It also has the capability of downloading game packs via WAP (Snake II mazes, Bumper tables, Space Impact chapters).

An Asia Pacific-only version, known as the Nokia 3350, was in essence an improved 3330 with WAP, rhythmic backlight alert, animated screensavers, two-way Navi-Key, dedicated call and hang buttons, Chinese lunar calendar and a 96x65-pixel screen.
