The World That A Red Bee CreatedSubmitted by Christine Layug Sun, 12 Jul 2009
Jollibee Food Corporation is one of the biggest corporations in the Philippines today, along side Ayala Corporation. Considered as the pillar that led to the growth of the food service industry in the Philippines, Jollibee is now considered as the biggest fast-food chain in the country, beating the top brands of fast-food chains in the world such as McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger King. Its success in the field even drove its brand outside of the country and into other countries.
Its expansions across the world, especially in countries in which Filipinos usually congregate, have furthered the service that Jollibee holds, and today, Jollibee is now considered as one of the biggest fast-food chain in the world. Its success, however, isn't only because of their delectable menus, but because of their dedication to further reach the needs of every people around the world in terms of food service. This is the reason why Jollibee Food Corporation have been known to acquire other brands of fast-food chains outside of its market. Greenwich Pizza Greenwich Pizza is one of the first brand of fast-food chain in the Philippines that Jollibee Food Corporation bought. It was in 1994 that JFC obtained a deal acquiring 80% of Greenwich shareholding. But it was in 2006 that JFC bought out the remaining shares of its partners in Greenwich Pizza Corp., equivalent to a 20% stake, for P384 million in cash. The new company was then called Greenwich Pizza Corporation. Chowking This is one brand that Filipinos have grown accustomed to. Chowking is a Philippine-based chain that pioneered the Asian quick-service restaurant concept in the Philippines. On January 1, 2000, Chowking became a wholly owned subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corporation. The change in ownership gave rise to store renovations and a new corporate look and mindset that is visible from front-end to back-end. Red Ribbon Bakeshop Red Ribbon Bakeshop is a popular fast-food chain and bakery in the Philippines and the United States, offering a wide range of cakes and pastries. In 2005, Red Ribbon was acquired by Jollibee Foods Corporation, a conglomerate of popular fast-food chains in the Philippines. Other acquisitions and expansions Other than Greenwich Pizza, Chowking, and Red Ribbon Bakeshop, JFC is also known to own other fast-food restaurants such as: * Délifrance - A bakery company that serves "French style" bakery products in over 50 countries on five continents. In 2006, the company acquired the franchise of Délifrance. This further expanded its penetration in the food service industry, particularly in the French cafe-bakery, a growing segment of the Philippine food market. * Manong Pepe's or Tio Pepe's Karinderia - On July 25, 2007, Jollibee launched its pilot restaurant "Tio Pepe's Karinderia" in Edsa Central in Mandaluyong, to professionalize the Philippine carinderia business. * Lao Dong and Chun Shui Tang - An acquisition made outside of the Philippines, JFC acquired this Taipei restaurant and tea house in 2006. * Hong Zhuang Yuan - A Chinese fast-food chain acquired by the company in 2007. * Yonghe Dawang - In 2004, Jollibee acquired this Chinese fast food chain for $22.5 million.
