Transform your room into a luxury resort

Every time I go away on a vacation and stay in a hotel room I always love it. I always come back thinking that I need to have that luxury resort feeling in my bedroom too. So the last time we went on vacation I made up my mind to get inspired and come back and transform my bedroom into a luxury resort too. The transformation was incredible and well within my modest budget.
Here is what I did:
1.Clear all your clutter - we get so tied up with our everyday life that we slowly let the clutter take over and soon there is clutter all over. Clean up. Get rid of the stuff that you are not using. If you haven't used it for a few months you are never going to use it. Another rule of mine that I use to declutter is to use no emotional attachments. If we are emotionally attached to all the things then there is going to be stuff laying all around.
2.Color the walls- adding a splash of color is a great way to completely transform the feel of a room. It is an inexpensive way that allows you bring your favorite colors into the room. Paint is so flexible that you can go crazy with it. If you don't like it you can easily paint over it. Me personally, I like my room to be cozy and I use a color palette that spells cozy and luxury.
3.Bed Linens - invest in a set of great linens. My favorite is silk bedding. Silk bedding easily transforms any bedroom into a luxurious retreat. The feel of the silk sheets, silk pillowcases and silk comforter spoils and indulges. It is like being at a resort every day. With technological advances ssilk bedding is so affordable and easy to maintain. Washable silk sheets are easily available and the different colors and textures will definitely please.
4.Accessorize - make the space more personal and high end by using a few pieces but that are striking and bold. Lamps, rugs, candles, silk pillows, silk throws, curtains, paintings are great way to accessorize the room. Simple, bold lines lend to a more luxurious and high end feel.
5.Lighting- even though lamps are a part of the accessorizing, I still put it separate as lighting is so important. Not only do you need enough light but light should come from different sources and angles. Choose light sources that accent, spotlight area you want to bring attention to. There should be both light coming for the ceiling as well as uplight ( light going form the bottom to the top). The play of light can completely change and enliven a room.
Using all these elements of clearing clutter, painting the walls, accessorizing, lighting and investing in a great set of silk linens can completely transform any ordinary room into an extraordinary luxurious retreat. The most important element being the silk bedding. Silk bedding not only looks luxurious and opulent but when you get into a bed made up completely of silk bedding it is truly luxurious.
