According to many historians, the holiday first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. Valentine's Day were best celebrated in the past with the exchange of greetings cards, which was also called as Valentine's cards. Eventually, the presentation of flowers and confectioneries became a popular trend in today's Valentine's Day celebration. Valentine's Day in other countries The presentation of flowers, Valentine's cards, and confectioneries is widely practiced in the western hemisphere. However, many favors the giving of flowers rather than any other kinds of gifts. But other than the western countries, other countries around the world have also come to celebrate the Valentine's Day. However, gifts can also vary from what the woman would like to have in Valentine's Day. The giving of Valentine's cards, however, is none existent in China. In the Philippines, Valentine's Day is also celebrated the way China celebrates theirs. The valentine's day philippines is called "Araw ng mga Puso" or "Hearts Day".
