What are Roses?

Submitted by jeffbabasa

In all the flowers we have encountered, either for collection, cultivation, as a symbol, as a tradition, or as simple as a gift, roses rise above others. So why is it is that roses are the most popular kind of flower all over the world?

One explanation is when Valentine's Day arrives. Valentine's Day, which is celebrated on February 14th, is a major festival in the western hemisphere. People express their love for each other by means of gifts, of which flowers play a prominent role. Rose ranks highest among the flowers gifted on Valentine's day. Red rose, which is commonly associated with passion, and pink rose, commonly associated with appreciation and sympathy, are popular gifts on Valentine's day. This association of a flower to a certain emotion or expression is called Floriography. Buy Philippine flowers and send it back to the Philippines by visiting an online flower shop.

The language of flowers, sometimes called floriography, was a Victorian-era means of communication in which various flowers and floral arrangements were used to send coded messages, allowing individuals to express feelings which otherwise could not be spoken. Some of these language are nearly forgotten, but red roses still imply passionate, romantic love and pink roses a lesser affection; white roses suggest virtuechastity and yellow roses still stand for friendship or devotion.

These are only some of the reasons why roses are among the most popular and in-demand kinds of flowers. Roses are also the center of popular culture. Roses are ancient symbols of love and beauty. The rose was sacred to a number of goddesses, including Isis and Aphrodite, and is often used as a symbol of the Virgin Mary. 'Rose' means pink or red in a variety of languages. If you want to send some Philippine flowers back to the Philippines, then visit any online flower shops based in the Philippines.

The rose is the national flower of England and the United States, as well as being the symbol of England Rugby, and of the Rugby Football Union. It is also the provincial flower of Yorkshire and Lancashire in England (the white rose and red rose respectively), of Alberta (the wild rose) in Canada, and of Islamabad Capital Territory in Pakistan.

Roses are often portrayed by artists. The French artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté produced some of the most detailed paintings of roses. Henri Fantin-Latour was also a prolific painter of still life, particularly flowers including roses. The Rose 'Fantin-Latour' was named after the artist. Other impressionists including Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne have paintings of roses among their works. Buy and send Philippine flowers back to your loved ones this coming Valentine's Day by visiting an online flower shop.
