Cell Phone Lookup aids Pennsylvania police in locating an attempted murderer

Submitted by Elena Tentser

Reverse cell phone searches have quickly become indispensable in recent years. The real-life scenarios that support this claim, many of crucial, life-saving nature, abound all around us.

Take last week’s incident in Yeadon, PA. 20-year-old James Byrd II and an unknown accomplice confronted and shot at three unsuspecting men sitting in front of their house, critically wounding one. Of course, the perpetrators took off long before the police arrived at the scene and arranged for the victim to be transported to the local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The detectives investigating the shooting site were soon granted a lucky break: a cell phone lying on the sidewalk about one block away from the crime scene. Using none other than a run-of-the-mill cell phone lookup, the investigators traced the phone to its owner, Byrd’s mother. As it turns out, the phone had been reported stolen less than 10 minutes after the shooting. Prior to reporting the theft, Byrd attempted to locate the cell phone by calling its number, conveniently providing the police with the number for the reverse phone search.

The rest is history. Police apprehended Byrd at his home, where they found the would-be-murder weapon and had no trouble extricating a confession. The hapless Byrd is incarcerated following the arraignment on attempted homicide and multiple other charges, and pending sentencing; his more careful accomplice remains at large.
Let’s all hope that the circumstances under which any one of us may use the Cell Phone Lookup service are not life-threatening. Yet, even under less drastic conditions, this service frequently comes in handy. Knowing who calls you and yours is often the key to a protected, worry-free way of life for you and your family.
