Conversation Topics for First DatesSubmitted by Susan Lancaster Fri, 12 Nov 2010
How awkward is it to start a conversation on a first date? Oh, you can talk about the weather or some other general topic which is boring, or you can be creative. There are some techniques you can learn below, don't forget, enjoy the class.
First Dates - For Starters Do you want to make a real good impression on your first date? How about returning to the lost art of opening the car door for your date? You don't have to say anything to rack up points right away. Opening the door to the restaurant? Your points will start accumulating fast without you having to utter a word. Finally, pulling out the chair and making sure your date is comfortably seated is very gentlemanly. As simple as this seems, for some reason these common dating courtesies have been lost in the shuffle. For most women these small gestures will resonate loudly in your favour, don't forget them. Conversation Topics You need to break the first date jitters. Warning - Stay away from politics and religion Lets run a list of a few topics you can use to get things going: 1. Tell me about yourself. 2. Pick out something you can see they take pride in like: his/her clothing, make complimentary comments about it. 3. Be sincere, ask about their job. Really show interest. 4. Family is a safe subject, ask about their relatives. 5. Music - see if you have some common ground to start an interactive conversation with. 6. Outside interests. Do they like to watch movies, sports, shopping, find common areas to talk about. This should get the ball rolling in short order. Discovering common subjects on your first date will be of interest to both of you and keep the conversation flowing for hours. Now the question is, where do you use all this good information? Speed Dating This form of first dating has been around for a while. Generally you would contact an organisation that sets up functions for singles to meet. Of course you have to fill out an application and express the type of people you wish to meet. The organiser then sets the time and place where you will meet. What happens at these functions, or parties, is more of a first impression dating. You have between 3 to 8 minutes to converse and get to know each other. Then you skip over to the next table and do the same thing. Once everyone meets each other the score cards are tallied up. If two people like each other during this process, a longer date is scheduled for the two to go out. This is the idea of speed dating. In 2007 this concept was tried using the Internet. The online technology allows videos and audios to be used for singles to view. Convenience is one of the key selling points to this business. If two people find interest in each other a real meeting is arranged. Cupid takes over from there. If you show genuine interest in the person you're dating, conversation and topics should be no problem at all. Good Dating.
