Five professions that find it difficult to date.Submitted by Susan Lancaster Sat, 5 Feb 2011
What is necessary for a good date? Attentiveness, commitment, good conversation or communication? All these require a certain level of interpersonal skills and freedom of time. Every date depends on the individuals involved but it can sometimes be difficult for people in certain fields to even have the chance to get a date or the time in the day to go on one.
There are numerous professions that can make dating a more difficult process than it already is. For example, doctors are often on call, which can abruptly interrupt the execution of a date. Depending on the field of the doctor, another barrier can exist because of the wealth of the person and the pressure to know all in the field of medicine. These high expectations for persons in the medical field can make for a pressure filled date. Truck drivers can have difficulty both in getting dates and in keeping them. Not only do they receive judgment based on stereotypes that they must overcome. Their absence for weeks at a time can make commitment on a higher level with another individual strained. Performers have unique difficulties in the dating world. While their job can be glamorous, it can also be incredibly time consuming and filled with additional pressures of success and high income. Potential dates will think that it's great to see their honey on stage; they will later realise that a performer's life takes them away for many hours at a time, often in the evening. In addition, giving full attention to a date can be difficult with fans and press constantly wanting attention as well. Members of military positions that require time away from home so often can make finding time for dates a challenge. While they have the allure of men and women in uniform, continuing to date can be difficult when stationed elsewhere for periods of time. The stigma attached to certain positions can make a date difficult. The world needs morticians but some people are not able to handle the emotional response that working so closely with death evokes in them. No profession will make it impossible to date but all professions have their challenges. The key is to restructure the definition of dating to allow it to fit into their lives and find those people to date who are flexible enough to adapt to it.
