Judging A Person By Their Dating ProfileSubmitted by xtianabad23 Thu, 6 Aug 2009
Most people are already equipped with the necessary skills that enable them to judge other people, but this is in the real world. All it takes is an adjustment of the inbuilt skills when regarding a person in the physical world, to be translated and put to use in the cyber world to judge a person's dating profile. Once you get the hang of it, you will be surprised by how revealing or not, a dating profile can be and how very much like a dating profile a person is likely to be.
Evaluating your own social recognition skills Take a jotting pad and a pen and scratch out the primary characteristics you usually notice in a person when meeting them for the first time. The best way to do this is to recall at least five incidences of meeting people for the first time. In a sort of slow motion flashback, recognize the characteristics of the person that you first noticed, that helped you judge the person. The dating profile of a person is the online equivalent of meeting a person for the first time. Run a few profile searches in random and look at the profile characteristics that are revealed in the results. Match the revealed character markers, against the physical world characteristics that you would notice in a person. Mark out the ones that would help you make an informed evaluation of a dating profile. What you see is what you get Just as pictures can tell a thousand words, you will be able to sort through and instantly judge a person, primarily by looking at their pictures. However, you should not use only images of a person to guide your evaluation of their dating profile. Add to your favorite selections some of the profiles that you instantly like from their pictures, and then further evaluate the dating profile. Also equally informative is the writing style a person uses. A dating profile will contain enough of subjective information entered directly by the individual. Use the general mood of the writing to come up with a mental picture of the nature of the person. A lot of 'I this' and 'I that' would for example, indicate a very ego centric person, but just a few instances, may reveal a very jovial and outgoing person. Sing your inbuilt evaluation skills When you are looking through a dating profile that is visually appealing, you will want to concentrate on some of the physical defining characteristics that build towards a person's self. These would include, the indicated height and weight (as compared to the person's picture), self defined nature (also when compared to the expression on the person's face on the profile image) and other physical characteristics that may help you draw a mental picture. In the physical world too, such physical characteristics would immediately bring to mind a mental profiling of a person, during a first meeting. Finally, rely on your instinct. People are generally very well geared to mentally judge a dating profile in the same manner that they instinctively judge a person in the physical world. It is surprising at how valid and true most instinctive judgments prove to be.
