A marriage proposal is part of the tradition of getting married. This marks the start of the commitment a guy makes to share the rest of his life with someone. And that person is not just anybody; it is someone he loves.

Proposals are not easy. It takes time, planning and composure to create magic and romance. However, no matter how nervous a man gets; he has to pull his proposal off.

There are several considerations in planning a proposal. Doing something radical or unique is better than just popping the question. Despite the different approach, the essence of proposing should remain the same.

Here are the major things to consider when making a proposal:

The venue

Deciding where to conduct your proposal is essential. It sets the mood for you and your partner. One helpful tip you can apply when looking for a place is to take her in those places that remind you of the good times. It could be a park, a spa or a restaurant. The place can be her personal favourite or a significant venue for the both of you. If reservations or booking is needed, do it earlier. Do not be too complacent because the place you want may not be available for the date you chose.

Proposals should be done in places that are familiar and romantic. The venue can be very symbolic, so choose wisely. The more you exert effort in finding the best venue, the more meaningful your proposal will be.

When to pop the question

Hollywood has created a lot of scenarios on how to pop the question. At this point, you could get really nervous (probably because of the anxiety). But the key in asking "will you marry me" is timing. You should know the time to ask the question. Should it be after she opens the tiffany box or do you ask it after she discovers the ring? You can have different ways in asking the question. You can have banners flying attached to airplanes. Or you can have it placed in the bottom of the champagne glass (Peter Parker did that). The key is to have the element of surprise.

In asking the person to marry you, you have to be sincere. Be at your best form. Shake off the jitters. Look her in the eyes with love and passion. Finally, ask her to marry you in a firm and loving tone.

The ring

Choosing the right ring can be difficult. The key is selecting the best ring that suits your budget. Diamonds are great. However, there are other types of rings in the market. It could be made out of gold bands with precious gems, platinum bands with diamonds or silver celtic jewelry.

The ring you choose should match the preference of the person you are giving it to. However, there are men who opt to do proposals without rings. There were men who decided to buy the ring later after the actual proposal has been done. This way both of you will be happy with the ring you have chosen.
