What To Wear on That First Special DateSubmitted by Susan Lancaster Sun, 7 Nov 2010
When it comes to a first date the first question always pondered is what should be worn. While men do not typically put much thought into this, women will think about this for days leading up. They want to impress whomever they are meeting for the first time because first impressions will determine the future of the relationship. When it comes to online dating, a blind date that was either set up by a friend or by oneself the outfit worn should be carefully planned.
The first question to ask is the location of the date. If you're going to a movie dressing more casually with something like a cute top and jeans would be suitable. Also consider what the weather will be like. Dressing in a short skirt if you plan on going somewhere cold or if it is raining, is simply not practical. Most women always want to dress in a trendy fashion however this can be expensive and not be suitable for the environment. It is always best to make sure the outfit is comfortable. It is odd enough when meeting somebody for the first time so why add extra worry about something else. Showing the date confidence this can be reflected in what is worn. By not wearing something that is too flashy or revealing shows how one feels about themselves. A woman can show comfort in whatever they wear which will prove confidence. Another suggestion is to be sure not to show a lot of flesh. Your date can get the wrong idea and a date night can go completely wrong. It is interesting to know recent research shows that 40% of women who showed a little too much skin were found as unattractive to their male date. When deciding upon what to wear keep in mind knee length skirts or dresses. Wearing strapless or a shirt with a thin strap is okay provided that it suitable for the weather so long as a sweater is brought along. When it comes to low-cut tops avoid wearing something that shows too much. This is up to the individual however a great suggestion is to try not to show any cleavage. Meeting up at a bar or club is common for a first date because of the social setting. In this case a little skin may be appropriate depending upon one's age. The last thing that a date wants to see is a female dressing too young or too old. Certain colours can also impact your first impression. For example a study from the University of Rochester found that men are attracted to the colour red. This colour may not be suitable for your skin tone or age appropriate so perhaps a coral or fuchsia would be more suitable. This way it is still vibrant yet flattering on an older woman. When it comes to online dating the person may already have an idea of who they are meeting up with. With many social networks only it is easy to look up any one. This means an idea of who the person is has already been established. Do not try to be deceiving because this is unfair and doesn't betray ones true self. Also consider what appropriate attire is for the first date. If being trendy isn't ones typical style then don't dress as such. If a woman does not wear a lot of makeup there is no need to change now. Dressing in a manner that reflects ones personality is important.
