Divorce Advice - Would You Like To Get Divorce Advice?Submitted by oursuccess
In the last few years a great debate has waged. This debate is neither over taxes nor running for office, at least not directly. It is the great marriage debate and it has spanned the arguments from gay marriage to covenant marriages.
One of the underlying arguments is whether or not the marriage debate is a spiritual issue or it is a legal issue. Does a person's personal belief on what makes up a legal marriage deserve to be actual law? That depends a lot on someone's moral beliefs. Homosexual marriage is when two people of the same sex want to be legal wed. Besides the obvious reason, the same as heterosexual couples, of marrying for love, they want the legal benefits that come with being officially wed. This is a hot topic and the U.S. found itself in a great political maelstrom with proposals from President George W. Bush to make it a constitutional ban against gay's being able to legally wed. The marriage debate was heated and it came down to individual state's voting on whether or not to recognize homosexual unions. Another marriage debate was on the subject of Covenant marriages. A covenant marriage is one that makes it more difficult for a couple to attain a divorce decree. When the couple applies for a marriage license they must decide on how, if ever, they would seek to end their union. The marriage debate regarding Covenant marriage is one that questions whether or not stricter rules would deter many individuals from seeking dissolution of the marriage and whether or not it is an interference of religion into the political realm. As of 2004 only Arkansas, Arizona and Louisiana passed covenant marriage laws. The covenant marriage is not a new concept and has been in use in parts of Europe for decades. The issue will continue to be under scrutiny and the whole marriage debate regarding laws to govern a marriage will continue as long as there are personal lifestyle choices to consider. Another marriage debate, though less seen in the public eye, is over whether or not a state recognizes the legality of common law marriage. These are when a couple has resided together for a set number of years, in essence being married but without a formal appellation. This union has a different beginning but has to be ended, if the state recognizes and has legislation governing, the same way other marriages must. Coming together, whether recognized legally or not, is a big decision. Most individuals do not go into a union knowing that they wish it to end it in divorce. It is how they are brought together that seems to spark the most debate and controversy. About the Author
