More China Imports Recalled Due to Lead Found in Toys

Rockville, MD - A line of children's jewelry made in China has been recalled due to the potential for excess levels of harmful lead contained in the products.
Metal Necklaces Laced with Lead Recalled

About 13,000 units 'It's a Girl Thing' metal necklaces, bracelets and phone charms were imported by Bead Bazaar USA Inc of Rockville and distributed through retailers nationwide from February 2006 through June of this year. The jewelry retailed for about $6.

The recall was announced just prior to the July 4th holiday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in concert with the importer/distributor, and while there have been no injuries or deaths reported thus far, there is very real concern that the jewelry could contain high levels of lead. The latter is a toxic chemical that if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Lead-laced toys manufactured in China have long been a problem with imports coming in from China, and the trend doesn't appear to be abating.
Other Jewelry Peices Recalled

The recalled jewelry features a variety of charms—among them flowers, shoes, letters and butterflies. 'It's a Girl Thing' is imprinted on the packaging along with UPC numbers 633870018419 (bracelet), 633870018426 (necklace), and 633870018433 (phone charm).
What To Do With Recalled Jewelry

Consumers were advised by CPSC to take the recalled products away from children and return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

The importer and distributor, Bead Bazaar USA can be contacted at (800) 838-1769, or online at www.beadkit.com.
