With money being tight for most people during the recession, couples and families can't afford to dine out as much as they used to. Although this means that people aren't going to restaurants quite as much, it doesn't mean that they have to eat ready meals, frozen meals and food out of tins.

Instead, the desire for good, healthy food is just as strong, and following the lead set by TV chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey, families are trying home cooking instead.

By finding cheap recipes people are able to eat just as well at home as they would have eaten in a nice restaurant, for a fraction of the price. Many people are finding that they have a love for cooking that they didn't know they had, and indeed a skill for cooking that has been born out of necessity.

Home cooking is much cheaper than eating out because many of the ingredients that you buy for cheap recipes can be reused many times over. For example, spices and sauces last for months once they have been purchased, and can be used in many different cheap recipes. You'll notice that once you have been cooking for a few months that when you come to buy ingredients for a new recipe that you'll already have much of what you need, thus keeping costs down even further.
