Cars: Can they be our Next Weapon Against Terror??

Submitted by lookstare

In the war on terror we have to become more resourceful than the enemy. But our resourcefulness needs to be one that is non conventional, so as to keep an enemy that thrives on the element of shock and surprise, guessing and wondering why we are not doing what we were expected to do. Once we manage to keep them guessing and wondering what we are going to do next, we will find that their war strategies, which are dependent on our predictable self-preservation patterns, will collapse.

In other words, if we keep on reacting to what Bin Laden and his people are doing, they will pick us apart little by little, until there is not even a crumb of the American Dream, but instead our dream will become a night mare worst than a Freddy Cougar movie on a stormy night. So what we have to do then is make them guess what our next move is going to be; we make them wonder where we are going, and more important we show them what we can do once we are lined up at the goal line.

Le me try to explain what I mean. Let’s take the cellular phone. Cellular phones are possibly one of the greatest illustrations that we can use to show what American resourcefulness can achieve once ignited by confidence and a forward thinking mentality. According to some excerpts found on http://library.thinkquest.org, in 1843, a man by the name of Michael Faraday conducted some studies to see if space was a conductor of electricity. His studies or dreams, led to further studies, and in the year 1865 another resourceful innovator was able to achieve communication via a wireless environment. This man was the late Doctor Mahlon Loomis, and he came of with the concept of transmitting and receiving messages via the atmosphere as a conductor. Many years later, in 1973 Martin Copper dreamed up Motorola, and in 1977 the first cell phone was made a reality. So because of the possibilities and because of the potential to use resources, one of the greatest technological advances of our time came into shape. But the terrorists are now taking our creativity and are turning it against us.

As all of you are aware, the insurgents in Iraq (who are terrorist themselves) are using cellular phones to detonate roadside bombs. These roadside bombs, also known as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), are taking the most advanced and sophisticated army in the world, and little by little, by the joining of a high technology device and an unconventional and rather rustic strategy, are killing American soldiers just about every day in Iraq. We, in spite of our war machine know how, can not seem to find a counter strategy to take away the sting out of the fusing that the insurgent primitive vision has made with the fruit of our great progressive minds.

So why not do what Michael Faraday, Doctor Loomis and Martin Cooper did to bring forth one of the greatest assets that American ingenuity has ever come up with. Why not do what the insurgents are instinctively doing, and let us use what we have in a new and refreshing way to stop the use of our technology against us. About if we surprise them and show them that we can live and survive under any circumstances, at whatever cost. But let us survive without increasing the cost; in fact, let us do it by reducing the cost and improving the quality of our existence. Let us take for instance, the automobile to move forward into a freer America. This I feel will be the best possible tool that we can use to defend our way of life. Imagine us driving cars that instead of using the gasoline that intoxicates us with our dependence on oil, use the already available resource of sun light. Some might think this as a noble idea, but I think it is a common idea, and as such it is real and possible. Perhaps some will stand to loose financially, but the losses will be personal and not national; and hence they will be losses for the common good. So rather than exporting our dreams to those who hold us hostages with oil, we can keep them in our soil in order to promote growth, peace and freedom. This is something that those who terrorize us because they know we fear losing the dream, will not and cannot understand, and therefore cannot defend against it.
