Discovering Spiritual Maturity

Submitted by taberstruths@gmail.com

Have you ever wondered if you are spiritually mature? Does the bible speak of spiritual maturity and how to tell if you or someone else are as grown up as they think they are?

Yesterday I spoke on this very subject and it caused me to think back to different times where I thought I was more spiritual than I really was. I remember about a year after I first gave my life to Jesus, that I was filled with a whole lot of zeal, and not much wisdom. In fact, if the truth be known, I was filled with a lot of spiritual pride. I thought I was knowledgeable and on top of my Christian walk, but had no clue how to judge whether I was even close to being a seasoned believer in the Lord. I was in fact, a novice. Later, when I was attending Bible College, I was sure I was very mature. In fact I was convinced that I was going to be God's man of power for the hour! I had my white tux all picked out! Little did I know, that in reality, I was a sophomore. The word sophomore comes from 2 Greek words with root meanings of "Wise Moron" I was truly a wise moron but the wisdom was only in my own eyes.

Now 32 years later I have discovered at least a few biblical principles that will objectively show you if you are spiritually mature. You can know with these 4 basic tests whether or not you are one of the spiritually mature or if you are still needing to grow up.

Christian maturity, when you get there, will help you with many things in life. It will help you

1. Walk through the storms in life.
2. Keep your focus on the right things
3. Not waste your time pursuing things that lead to a dead end.
4. Bring a contentment and peace that can be had no other way.

Have you ever wondered why certain senior citizens have a glow and joy about them where others seem all grumpy and bitter? It has to do with how they have allowed their journey in life affect them. How do you want to end up in your golden years?

Do you really want to have a happy and fulfilling life? I know I do, and I have been learning how to do that over the last 32 years. I went from being a kid called Duke the Puke in grade school to being a pastor and published author with a weekly column in our local newspaper. It all came from discovering how to be spiritually mature.
