From Mercy to MercySubmitted by proberts Thu, 8 Nov 2007
We have been functioning by God's mercy all along, even if we’ve been unconscious of this fact. It is literally true that we live from mercy to mercy, from grace to grace. After we acknowledge this, then we might move on the next step, which is to deliberately function on a daily basis by this same mercy and grace. This is where much unlearning and then relearning comes into play. Jesus Christ will orchestrate our relationship with Him so that we abandon all the ways we were used to functioning on a daily business in favor of functioning only and always by His grace.
Christ will teach us how to relate to Him and everyone else in the world in terms of grace. That He would un-train and then train us yet again is, in itself, is a substantial demonstration of God's grace. As a starting point, we can acknowledge the generous portion of mercy that God allots to us by letting us, a sinful and tainted people, approach Him at all. As we learn to surrender to and rest in the solid grace of God, Christ will also teach us the practicality of functioning by a law of grace with our fellow human beings. Though we are accustomed to dedicating ourselves to corruption and decay yet by grace we will strive onward in Christ, steady-as-we-goes, toward powerful, pure, God-pleasing lives. The difficult thing is that, in order for us to function by a radically new Way, we must unlearn all our former, degenerate ways. Our fleshly ways have been convenient for a season, yet Christ will teach us the eternal practicality of living, breathing and walking by His Spirit. We who follow Christ are learning to live according to our Master’s unconventional means. We are learning the secret to leaping outward into passionate living from the springboard humble, unconditional surrender. After Christ teaches us this superior outlook on life, which is all Him and nothing of us, then we will continue unreservedly on these same, realistic terms. Indeed, there is no other way to see God's kingdom than by Christ-consumption. by Patrick Roberts BooksByPatrick.com About the Author
