How Christians Celebrate Easter

Submitted by amichaels

What is the proper way to celebrate Easter? For Christians, the holiday known as Easter is the most important day of the year. It is even more important than Christmas, because it is the completion of the story that began on Christmas day.

Unfortunately, Easter has suffered much the same fate as Christmas. That is, it has been highly commercialized, detracting from the true meaning of the day. Some would even say that popular culture has hi-jacked both of these holidays.

So the question remains, how should Christians celebrate Easter? Is it best to completely ignore and reject Easter bunnies, eggs, and baskets? Truly, this is a matter of conscience for the individual. Each person may have a different feeling on the issue, but ultimately their conscience should dictate their choice.

Some may choose to completely reject the popular Easter symbols, and focus on celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ, and the subsequent forgiveness of sin. This is an admirable way to deal with the holiday, and cannot be questioned by anyone.

However, some Christians do feel that the secular symbols of Easter have a measure of merit. Wonderful family memories can be made of children hunting for Easter eggs that were painstakingly hidden in the wee hours of the morning by the parents. Coloring eggs the night before is also a great bonding experience for siblings, as well as for parents and children.

Undoubtedly, Christ's sacrifice on the cross should be the focus of all Christians on Resurrection Sunday. If your conscience permits, bonding with your family over some secular Easter traditions can be a welcome addition to your Easter celebration.
