Religous Meditation

Submitted by jkworthyW

In the hectic pace of modern living most of us have little or no time to sit back to meditate or think.

Days in high school are crowded with dozens of activities, not to mention the class-work which must be done if good marks are to be obtained.

Television, dates, church activities, and community responsibilities, as well as part-time jobs, hardly leave time for that needed eight hours of sleep.

As a result God is oftentimes crowded out of our lives. We say our prayers in a hurried way. We dash to church, and the service is half over before we have caught our breath. When there is a little time to read the Bible, we are too tired to concentrate.

Despite all this hurrying and rushing, every Christian must take the time and meditate on that most important of all relationships - the relationship with God. To think, to ponder, and to meditate on spiritual matters is highly necessary.

How does one meditate? Really, it\'s quite simple. At first meditating may seem difficult, even rather out of date in this age of electronics. Don\'t let our jet-propulsion age stop you. Set up a pattern for meditating. Begin today.

The first thing to remember is that meditation must have God and the Cross at the center. Read a portion of the Bible. After you have done that, quietly ask yourself these three questions:

What does God say?

What does God say to me?

What does God want me to do?

This is just one pattern for a meditation. Great Christian men and women of all ages have developed innumerable patterns of thinking in a systematic way about God.

Once you begin the practice of meditation (start with five minutes of meditation), you will discover your spiritual life immensely enriched and your prayers will acquire greater significance for yourself. Naturally, your reading of Holy Scripture will also take on new meaning.
