The Assurance of Having the Wind Beneath Your WingsSubmitted by ann777
Soaring high above the world and all its problems is a wonderful sensation. Wouldn't it be great to spread your wings, take a few flaps and then feel yourself lifted up high and away from everything instantly? The eagle is to be envied, isn't it? Just think of how it can be swooping down for food one minute and in a flash be transported back up. Making its home on the highest mountain tops, far away from the danger of predators, it enjoys a magnificent, peaceful life.
Do you know that you can soar to heights you may never have experienced and feel lifted up like the eagle by wind beneath your wings? That's how God has equipped you. He promises that if you are patient and wait for His timing, your strength will be renewed and you shall mount up with wings as eagles. (Isa. 40: 31) He means every single Word that he promises! And, all His promises are for you! What does it mean to have the wind beneath your wings, spiritually? Let me tell you my story. Jack was lying comatose on total life support in the Intensive Care Unit with a brain aneurysm. Hope of any kind of recovery was next to nil. Faith was slipping as I listened to all the negative prognoses and the obvious deterioration of my beloved husband in front of me. It's very hard to keep praying in faith and praising God when everything in the physical realm points to total disaster. Our pastor kept assuring me that according to God's Word Jack was healed! I, on the other hand, kept calling him for more prayer support because all the symptoms continued to get worse! I believed the Word of God. I knew that "By His Stripes We Are Healed" (Isa. 53: 5). I had been standing on that Scripture when praying for others many times, and had seen many delivered and healed. Now I knew what it was like to be on the receiving end. What to do? My head was in a complete turmoil. I believed God to heal him. Now a decision had to be made. Should I authorize a most delicate brain operation with virtually no guarantee? After much prayer and family consultation, I went off to a quiet place. The mountain straddling the hospital was my favorite rendez-vous with the Lord at that time. It overlooked the city, the river and miles and miles of red-hued autumn-shaded horizon. I sat there quietly with the Lord on top of my little world for a long time. The surgeon explained the procedure to me, reamed off a long list of probable disastrous results, and handed me a form to sign. After applying my signature to exonerate the surgeon and hospital of any mistakes and complications, I took cupped his hands in mine. I looked up into his face, with a team of resident doctors surrounding us, and told him that his hands were anointed and would be guided by God. He looked down on his upturned hands and closed his eyes as I said a prayer. Peace filled the room. I had literally relinquished Jack to the Lord, and together we had placed him into the surgeon's hands. I knew that I knew that from that moment everything would be O.K. The wind of the Holy Spirit was tangibly buoying me up! Once a difficult decision is prayerfully made, you will feel yourself being drawn into the secret place under the shadow of the Almighty. (Ps. 91: 1) That's when you realize that He replaces all the wearisome worrying with His perfect peace that truly passes all human understanding. (Phil. 4: 7) You will know from that moment on that, regardless of the outcome, God is in control and His perfect Will shall be done! Would you like to be assured of being fully undergirded, soaring with wings as eagles? Even if you are encompassed by misery, find time to hide in that secret place, and the Lord will lift you up! "Be still and know that I am God." (Ps. 46: 10) After all the prayers have been made, it is time to stand and wait patiently. It's at this time, in the silence of your heart communing with your Lord, that the assurance comes. He is indeed the wind beneath your wings! About the Author
