Ways to Put Bible Verses to Songs

Almost more than anything, I love turning Scripture into songs for kids to sing! Memorizing the Bible is super easy if you sing the verses. Think of all of those childhood songs that are still sticking in your mind. You have that information stored in your mind. How much more important is the ability to retain God's Word, than to know your ABC's and that the little star above twinkles?

A simply melody and Bible verse combined turns into children's Bible songs and implants God's Word into out hearts. How do you go through the process of matching music to Scripture?

I use the following 5 tips when writing my own Scripture music:

Find words that rhyme. Verses in the Bible do not necessarily have words that rhyme, but quite often they do seem to fit with this form of poetry. When coming up with a melody line, you can then use this rhyming pattern to your advantage.

You will need to find the most important word or words in the Bible verse. Since the word "gave" was the main one for me from John 3:16, I emphasized this word when I turned the verse into a song. Repeating the verse made it stand out as i wished when set to the melody. You can also accompany the song with fun motions.

You should repeat the melody line if there aren't any words that rhyme. Biblical passages don't usually feature rhyming. You can separate the lines to fit into a repeating melody line. So, it's not the words here that are doing the rhyming, but the tune.

The melody line should portray the emotions you want to express. Would you prefer a soft melody or an upbeat, fast tune? What feelings do you want to convey with your verse? The feelings you get from the hymn will help it adhere to your memory.

Lastly, the reference to the Scriptural verse must be included. including the "address" of a Bible verse in your Scripture song is important, I think. Getting creative, can be easily done by you here. At the end of the song, don't feel like you have to put the reference. It can be put first or in the midst of the song.

I'd be grateful if you would visit KJV Bible Songs today and let me know how these techniques on writing Scripture songs have helped you, or if you have more questions.
