Before the musical Avenue Q moved to Broadway at the John Golden Theater, it hit big time at the Off-Broadway theater – the Vineyard Theater, in March 2003. It opened at this Off-Broadway theater to rave reviews, and it was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical Award in 2003. When it moved to Broadway, it previewed at the Shubert owned John Golden Theater on July 10, 2003. It opened on July 31, 2003, after a total of 22 previews.

The Story
Avenue Q is a story about adult-sized issues, about repressed sexuality, unemployment, racism and depression. This Jason Moore directed and Ken Roberson choreographed musical, based in an imaginary neighborhood, touchingly portrays trivial aspects of everyday life, humorously.

It is a story about Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate with big dreams and a very meager bank account. Avenue Q happens to be the only imaginary New York neighborhood he can afford. It is a story about an out-of-work comedian, and his therapist fiancée – Brian and Christmas Eve. It is about a good-hearted slacker and his investment banker roommate – Nicky and Rod. It is a story of an Internet addict, Trekkie Monster, and also about a kindergarten assistant – Kate. And to top it all, the building superintendent is Gary Coleman. Remember him? Bet you do!
