Toronto's dark sideSubmitted by yourtorontonet
Dear Reader,
I want to tell you a story of an African Canadian. Many years ago I came from Africa to a great country called Canada. The reason I left my home is because of human rights violation in a place of my origin. My friends told me about a country where all man are free from oppression and discrimination. This country is called Canada. While I stayed here, I did my best to contribute to the society that welcomed me. My friends were of European, Asian, African and other descends. We all live as brothers and friends. But every paradise has it's villain. My villain has a form of a woman that runs building at 25 Martha Eaton Way in Toronto. Every building has a problem that is usually resolved with hard work and contribution by the company that runs it. In this article, you will not see me complaining about heat being turned off after 5pm, constant floods, 30-year old appliances or anything like that. Instead I will talk about attitude of a property manager that thinks that, "Niggers and immigrants shouldn't have jobs and shouldn't be allowed into civilized world." When I first met her, she seemed like a nice lady. Monica had a sweet smile, sense of humor and she seemed compassionate about my problems. That made me feel like I live in a right building. For a while, I forgot that my neighbor had a fire due to fire safety violations overlooked by the management. I also forgot about cockroaches, mice and mold in my bathroom. It all was acceptable until I was about to walk into the office one day and overheard one of the building employees saying to Monica, "Niggers and immigrants shouldn't have jobs and shouldn't be allowed into civilized world." I was shocked even more when Monica said, "Yeh, I have to deal with them every day." It was a payback time! I started to gather the opinions of other tenants only to find out that somebody else overheard that same building employee saying, "Why all those Jamaicans are so dirty!?" OK that was enough for me to wright a letter to the Monica's boss Phil Hutchinson. Nothing happened. Actually it got worse. Just as I was about to live the condemned 25 Martha Eaton Way, I saw somebody's mother screaming at that building employee, "Don't you dare to touch my daughter again!" It was enough for me. Asta la vista Monica, DMS property management, Phil Hutchinson and building employee from hell. Thank you for reading, I would rather stay anonymous About the Author
