Engagement Ring TrendsSubmitted by workmedia Tue, 23 Nov 2010
Though engagement rings are timeless and nearly standard piece of jewelry, there are definite trends from year to year and generation to generation. Diamonds are almost always a part of engagement ring trends. Size of the diamond doesn't really change either. But beyond that, everything is fair game. Shapes of diamonds, the metal in the setting, how the ring is augmented are all things that change with the trends. Some current trends include micro pave or vintage style, colored diamonds, and square shaped cuts. All couples should choose rings that reflect the bride's and groom's tastes and something unique that will continue to be treasured throughout married life regardless of trends.
Square cuts of diamonds are currently in style. Many celebrities are sporting square engagement rings and this is why they have become trendy recently. They are generally called princess cuts, but different gem cutters develop their own cuts to enhance the brilliance of the stone. Other common cuts of square diamonds include radiant, asscher, and emerald cut. Square diamonds can be set corner to corner or on the side. Either way, there are numerous settings that complement a square diamond. It is a versatile shape and always eye catching. Colored diamonds are becoming more popular for the wedding bound. For the unique ring shopper, colored diamonds can be stunning. They come in just about every color imaginable including pink, blue, yellow, green, brown, and Champagne. Naturally colored diamonds occur when certain minerals are present as the diamond is formed. Some colored diamonds are much more expensive that white diamonds and some are much less. Brown diamonds are particularly popular right now. Traditionally, blue diamonds are also very popular. Each colored diamond comes in innumerable shades of the color. The rarest colors include gray, black, red, orange, olive, purple, and milky diamonds. In ring design, the trend right now is pave, or micro pave. It is a process by which very small diamonds are placed in the ring very close to each other creating a sort of paved look. Pave can be an accent to the main diamond, or it can be on the band. Pave is finding new applications all the time. It is one of the first known diamond settings dating back to the dark ages. It can render a vintage type look but is always classic and elegant. Micro pave is the same process, but is accomplished with the help of microscopes.
