In the United States the average age for a new groom is 28 years old. Everyone knows that most guys in their 20's love to party. They're still young enough to drink and recover from hangovers. Young guys have stamina and can go the distance when it comes to alcohol.

When it comes to groomsman gifts, flasks have been wildly popular for decades. If you've been to other weddings and served as a wedding attendant, chances are you may have received a flask as a gift. If you're now the groom and you think your groomsmen may have already gotten a flask too at some point, you'll want to be different and get them something they don't already have.

Here are some alcohol related items for your best man, groomsmen and ushers that isn't a flask:

1. Beer mugs. You can get big 25 ounce beer mugs with engraving on them that have a name, title and date. NFL or MLB tankards are appropriate for the football and baseball fans on your wedding team. Your friends can fill these up with beer or nonalcoholic beverages.

2. Pub signs. Personalized pub signs in colorful designs and numerous themes are available. Examples include golf, football, baseball, car racing, beach, Irish, poker, pool and cabin series of designs. All pub signs can usually be customized with a name and year. This is a great way to mark your wedding or special event. Nice addition to den, office or bar.

3. Coasters. Custom coasters are available in vibrant designs that match the pub signs. No one wants unsightly rings on their furniture. Protect your desk and coffee table with a set of coasters.

4. Cocktail Shakers. A barware set is a smart gift idea for someone putting together a beginning home bar. Usually the main item in a set is a cocktail shaker or an ice bucket. Various stirrers, openers and cutters are available too. This is something that will be used for years.

5. Lighters. Many times smoking and drinking go together. A custom Zippo lighter engraved with a name, initials or date makes a thoughtful, useful gift.

6. Corkscrew. A corkscrew is a handy gift for the wine connoisseur on your list. Many times you can get a combination gift set with a corkscrew and bottle stopper.

7. English Pewter Tankards. These are a bit more expensive than the other items. But it's cool to get a traditional tankard that is made in England. You'll know the quality is great but, of course, the price will be a little higher too.

Whatever you do for your groomsmen gifts, just give a little thought to a few things:

1. Budget. How much can you afford to spend on your guys? $20 per gift? $40? $100? Get a number in your head and then start looking for gifts that fall close to that target number. Otherwise, you might see something cool that is out of your budget and be tempted to overspend.

2. Usefulness. Are the items you're thinking about as groomsmen gifts something that will be useful to your friends? If you think they will touch it once and then never again, reconsider. Everyone likes to feel like they got their money's worth on an item. If you give something that you know your guys will use, you'll be more satisfied and at peace with the purchase.

3. Personalization. Most of the time wedding attendant gifts are personalized, engraved, embroidered or customized in some way, shape or form. The reason behind this is multifaceted. Personalized gifts mean more. They show that you put extra thought into your loved one. Everyone likes to know that they were fussed over. It makes them feel important. Personalization can help you give a thoughtful gift at a reasonable price. It truly is the thought that counts. Personalization adds meaning to a gift and elevates it to a higher level. For instance, a $10 money clip might seem pretty chintzy as a gift, but if that same item is engraved, it is thoughtful, wonderful and cool.

As the groom you are reasonable for picking out nice groomsmen gifts that everyone will like and that you can afford in your wedding budget. Give it a little thought and you will make an excellent decision. You'll make all your groomsmen happy and you'll be the hero.
