Spring Isn’t the Only Season for Weddings

Submitted by asingleton

Spring is traditionally the most popular time for a wedding; and with warm weather and the flowers beginning to bloom, it’s not hard to see why. However, every season has its own unique charm, which can make for a memorable and enjoyable day for you and your guests.

With its cold, crisp air, deep blue skies, and sparkling snowy scenery, winter can be a very picturesque time to get married. Winter weddings often adopt a traditional Christmas feel, embracing snowy and seasonal themes, and incorporating winter plants such holly and mistletoe into the decorations. A winter wedding is also a great excuse to wear a faux fur cape, or frost-white cashmere. When planning a menu for your winter weddings, it’s a good idea to choose hearty, filling foods, such as baked ham, beef stew, and lots of tasty sides such as pasta and potatoes. But even though it’s winter, it’s still possible to have an outdoor reception with the use of a marquee or gazebo. Space heaters can also be used to provide a comfortable venue at a reasonable price.

If the thought of snow and ice is just not your cup of tea, then perhaps a summer wedding will be more suitable for you. With warm temperatures, flowers in full bloom and long balmy evenings, the summer provides the longest and lightest days to get married - meaning you can make your special day last even longer. Summer brides often opt for summery themes; strapless dresses, open toed sandals, and wearing their hair up to keep cool. And as long as the weather cooperates, you and your guests will be able to sit outside long into the night, enjoying the warm balmy summer air. If you’re looking for place to host a summer wedding, hotels with outdoor facilities make a great choice of wedding venue for your reception party.

Not to be outdone, Autumn can provide a rustic feel and theme for a wedding, with the trees on the turn and the colours of fall providing an ideal backdrop for your wedding photographs. Autumn weddings often take a harvest theme, playing on the bountiful nature of this time of year, when crops are traditionally harvested. Use corn dollies, fruit and sheaths of wheat to decorate the tables and reception room. A stately home, manor house or castle all make for an ideal setting for a autumn wedding. Some people even go as far as adding a Halloween edge to their wedding, swapping their traditional wedding attire for costumes after the ceremony, and decorating the tables with pumpkin lanterns.

So, when it comes to planning your special day, remember that spring is not the only 'ideal' season. Autumn, winter and summer each contribute their own characteristics and can make for a unique and memorable theme to your wedding day.
