The wedding ring as it is commonly known is a symbol of eternal bond between two souls. It symbolizes the union of two souls and therefore it is the considered to be one of the most precious and pious occasion in a man's life. Even there also several variations of wedding ring and those are engagement rings, betrothal ring etc. Probably the custom of giving and taking of ring circulated in European countries from roman culture. But if we look back in the history of wedding rings we will find that the custom of wedding rings originally generated from ancient Egypt. And in the present day context to add to the list of wedding jewelry several other items are being added as well. From pre-engagement ring to wedding ring everything is being added in this list of gift. Actually this jewelry business seeks to expand the idea of a series of ring-gifts with the pre-engagement ring, often given when serious courting begins, and the eternity ring, which symbolizes the renewal or ongoing nature of a lasting marriage, sometimes given after the birth of a first child; and a trilogy ring, usually displaying three brilliant-cut round diamonds each, in turn, representing the past, present and future of a relationship. According to European tradition engraving of the name of one's intended spouse and the date of the marriage on the inside surface of the wedding rings is a custom. It strengthens the symbolism and sentimentality of the rings and makes the rings a family property.

But as for the wedding ring the custom is pretty old and the fact is that besides being an age old custom the custom of wedding rings is still equally important even in the present day context and therefore it is a very crucial fact that one should pay proper attention in the choice of the wedding ring for the better presentation of love.

As the wedding rings represent the symbol of love therefore the choice of the metal and the other items for the ring like the gem or the precious for the ring completely depends on the consideration of the one who intends to wear it or the one who gifts it. And there are also several choices to choose from as well. In fact for the wedding ring the most important thing that should be paid proper attention to is the metal for the ring. In this respect the choice of gold as the metal for the ring is the most common practice. In fact throughout the ages gold has been looked upon as the traditional metal for the ring. But other than that there is also another thing that should be paid proper attention to as well. The fact is that though the choice of gold as the metal for the ring is a traditional custom but these days people prefer to choose other precious metals as well. In this respect the choice of the platinum ring is much popular custom these days. Other than that other metals like titanium or alloys like white gold are also popular choices for the metal for the wedding ring.

The wedding ring keeps the relation of a couple intact, no matter how far they are from each other. The ritual of using wedding bands is prevalent in almost all cultures of mankind.
