Wedding Flowers - Protect against Loss or Damage

Submitted by Josie Anderson
Sun, 27 Mar 2011

Wedding flowers are a beautiful and traditional addition to any wedding ceremony, and they should therefore be protected against loss or damage by wedding insurance. Good wedding insurance will protect the bride's flowers, bridesmaids' flowers and even the flowers featured as table decorations or adorning the venue.

A wedding bouquet can be anything from a small hand tied bouquet up to hundreds or thousands of pounds for a long and complex arrangement; your wedding flowers will therefore be a big investment for either you or your close relative who is financing the wedding.

You should be aware that claims for flower theft are only valid if they are reported to the police within 24 hours. Loss or damage by theft or attempted theft from a car is also only covered if the wedding flowers are in a locked boot or locked glove compartment, concealed from view and there is evidence of forcible entry. You should therefore ensure that your flowers are cared for by yourself or a close relative to keep them safe for the duration of the wedding.

Whether you use a large national florists like Interflora, or if you source your flowers from your local florists - you will still need good wedding insurance to protect your arrangements. Flowers are notoriously fragile, which means they can easily rip or bruise during transportation or even whilst you're carrying them. Silk flowers and other types of artificial flowers can make a safer alternative and they may also be covered by your wedding insurance, however you should always check your policy document to confirm the details of your cover.

Once you have wedding insurance to protect your flowers, you can take time deciding what your wedding flowers will look like. Wedding flowers can take on a variety of styles to reflect the style of the wedding, so you can enjoy an arrangement of flowers that is as personal as your wedding day. Whether you play with the variety of flowers, the colour, scent or the arrangement, flowers will add a celebratory air to your wedding day.
