Be it a staggeringly expensive wedding or a simple budget one, wedding rings is bound to be worn around the fingers as a simple of marriage. It is therefore of great importance to those engaged to look for and choose the best material for their wedding rings. To aid in making this crucial decision, below are some tips on different wedding ring materials, their advantages, disadvantages and value.

Gold
Gold has had many uses including use as a form of currency in early centuries. Alongside that, gold is one of the oldest precious metals that have been used in making wedding and rings. This is because of its value, attractive color and luster which usually symbolize abundance of wealth. There are two types of gold on offer, which is yellow and white gold. Yellow gold is the common and classic of the two. Rings can be made out of pure gold or gold mixed with other less expensive metals in various ratios or percentages, usually measured in carats. White gold, on the other hand is a creative mixture of white precious metal such as platinum or silver and sometimes rhodium plating. Nickel white gold and palladium gold are also gaining popularity among couples. However, great care should be taken on these rings since the plating is bound to tarnish or wear out easily.

Silver
This is the second common metal that has always been admired and preferred due to its high reflectivity and attractiveness. Though a white metal, silver is less expensive compared to gold and other preferred wedding ring metals. Its light color also makes it easy to mix with other forms of jewelry. The bad thing about silver though is that it tends to thin and gets scratches with time making it inappropriate for rings to be worn on a daily basis. It also reacts with sweat causing a black coating which can be removed by polishing.

Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is one of the most used metals in making rings that are affordable compared to other precious metals. It is a little heavy and can show signs of scratches, just like most metals. However, stainless steel is resistant to rust, making it suitable for people who spend most of their time outdoors or working with water.

Tungsten
This is a hard metal that can withstand very high temperatures, a good reason why it is used in making the filaments found in lighting bulbs. Tungsten is also resistant to scratches and very hard such that not even platinum can be used to scratch it.

Platinum
Platinum symbolizes royalty as it is extremely expensive. The good thing about it is that it is very white and shiny making it both elegant and very stylish. Platinum is also one of the most durable metals that can resist wearing and scratches for as long as a lifetime.

Palladium
As white metal, palladium can be easily confused with platinum if not carefully looked at. This metal is also as durable but unlike platinum, it is less expensive. Its however not easy to find rings made out of making it unique due to its scarcity.
