You will, ultimately, there are only two reasons you will achieve total satisfaction from your collection. You have to be able to both appreciate what you have already collected and you must enjoy the quest to complete it.

The Proper Way to Display Your Collectibles
Many collectors seem happy enough to simply put their collectibles in a box and store them. Most, however, prefer to be able to view them daily. Storing them in the home can present a challenge for even the best decorator. Finding a way to present them all in one area can be difficult.

The presence of many small collectibles on a desk, dresser, side table or other flat surface can make it look cluttered and unorganized. This type of collectible is displayed best on a set of shelves or in a glass case such as a curio cabinet. Here they will attract the most attention, yet still be protected from dirt, dust, and damage. Other items like flags, matches, baseballs, thimbles and marbles may require that you purchase a special display case for them. If you have ample room, you might even find that you can devote an entire room to your collection.

Maybe you do not have the room to display every item in your collection at once. You could then consider rotating your collection so that you can enjoy the whole thing.

The Cons of Collecting
Getting that new item for your collection should never be a priority over managing your money wisely. Make sure you have taken care of your financial responsibilities before splurging on something new.

Obsession is a common problem amongst collectors. Many find that they cannot stop themselves from buying new items for their collection or that their collection is interfering with their daily life. These are signs of obsession and that the collector should consider getting some help.

Don’t become so involved in collecting that you forget or neglect your family. In the end, your family – not your collection – will be most important to you.

The Pro’s of Collecting
Trying to gather up all of the items in some collections may prove to be very expensive and too much for most people. While the challenge of getting every item in a collection can be fun, it is generally not very realistic. A way to compromise this is to collect just a select part of the set.

Many people buy collector’s items for family and friends thinking that they might continue to collect. However, chances are that it will not happen.
If you have a collection that is somewhat seasonal, you might try putting them out sooner to enjoy them longer.

Just because an item looks like a good investment monetarily, it may not always be a good choice for your collection. The item must also have some appeal for you personally. The main reason for this is that many times items in a collection will lose their value, for one reason or another. If this were to happen and the item was one you did not particularly like, you would be unhappy you had invested the money.

Both young and old people can enjoy the hobby of collecting. It is very fun and challenging to find the item you are looking for and then display it. Done responsibly, this hobby is rewarding.
