Submitted by flowers to go
Tue, 6 May 2008

It's a well known fact that flowers are a part of life. Dozens of flower pieces and arrangements can be seen on various occasion and celebration in our lives. It's almost passe to see lovers exchange bouquets of vivid roses for Valentine's day. You can almost expect that children and their fathers are expected to cough up with a couple of flower blooms for their moms and wives on Mother's day. And weddings will not be a complete affair if it will not be filled with a shower of various flowers in almost all the corners of the venue.

With all the sheer beauty and pleasure that it brings, one has to wonder where and when did all this exchange of flowers come about? What is it about the act of giving something from the graces of nature that makes every simple occasion so much better and much more special.?

No one really knows, but according to some researchers, certain artifacts that dates far back in the Pleistocene epoch suggests that there were some traces of flower fossil on the graves that they dug up. This is a great discovery, as it also led to note that there were already existing flowers that these people used which was found to have certain medicinal purposes.

Since then, flowers had been used to signify emotions, and eventually became a staple for celebrations and rituals.

When the Victorian period came about, flowers and their meanings have reached a whole new level. Every little thing about the flower's characteristics and their colors were scrutinized and compared. Giving flowers, created and broken relationships with just the simple act of picking the right flowers, for the right occasion. Several authors even made a book that specifically documented the different kinds of flowers and their meanings, of which it is now known as floriography.

Whatever reason or origin it springs upon, flowers are unquestionably something that brightens the dull fragments of our life. It continues to magnify life's simplest occasion, and it truly is a welcoming sight to bear.
