Bodybuilding And Blood Pressure - Vital Tips To Keep Your Body Safe!Submitted by bodybuildingtoday Wed, 1 Oct 2008
Everybody has heard of blood pressure, but many are not quite sure what it means. It is defined as the force that blood puts on the walls of the blood vessels that are in your body. Blood pressure has been used for a long time now to help determine cardiovascular and circulatory health. High blood pressure has been known to cause heart disease and a variety of other conditions. There are many factors that can contribute to high blood pressure, such as what you eat, how much you weigh, your family genetics, and your level of physical activity.
Few are aware that bodybuilders are particularly susceptible to high blood pressure as well as hypertension. The heart and blood vessels are not able to decipher the difference between a muscle man that weighs 250 pounds, and an obese man that weighs 250 pounds. No matter which body they are in, it still requires a much greater deal of work. Diet will also play a very important role in contributing to high blood pressure. Bodybuilders will eat a lot of calories every day; these calories can include a high level of fat, which is a major contributor to higher blood pressure. The heavy weights they lift will also affect the blood pressure. So now it's time that you considered your own blood pressure, which can be scary for many people. People need to have their blood pressure tested on a regular basis. The normal measure for a long time was 120/80, but that number has been lowered a bit by a lot of doctors lately. Those who are in excellent shape have a lower number of heartbeats per minute, numbering somewhere between 40 and 50. While this is great to have, it doesn't always mean low blood pressure. Many people who work out a lot think that it is helping their blood pressure by making the heart stronger, but this also can prove to be insufficient. Having a healthy heart does not necessarily mean high blood pressure won't be a problem. There are bodybuilders that have high test results and aren't aware of it. So the next time you notice really red faces on bodybuilders even when they are resting, you might know why. If a blood pressure test results in a reading near 160/80, this might be considered to be in the danger zone. In the body, that means that the blood is extending against the vessel walls as it passes with much more force than a doctor would like. Every person is different when it comes to blood pressure. Everyone has a different set of stressors, family history, and amounts of drinking/drug use, all of which are major contributors. Fortunately high blood pressure can be fairly easily medicated these days. So get tested regularly and stay on top of your blood pressure to ensure a long healthy life.
