Muscle Building Foods to Include in Your Diet

There are foods that are considered muscle building foods. I don't think you can really construct a top 10 list of these foods. You can't necessarily rank them. I will say, though, that there ARE certain foods you should be eating, and certain TIMES you should do so. It's more than what you eat. It's the timing of what you eat as well. Food does in fact impact your ability to build muscle and add muscle. Some people want to make it all about protein. And protein is important, but you can't build muscle without fats and carbs as well.

For starters, let's examine a few muscle building foods you'll want in your home.

First, there's yogurt. This easily digestible dairy source is full of protein. It's a food that allows the body's digestive system to work properly and efficiently. But it is also a tremendous source of protein for your body. If I were making a must-have list of muscle building foods, this would definitely be on my list. Pair some yogurt with some delicious fruit and this will stave off cravings for sweets. I enjoy yogurt and fruit to start my day every morning. Use in place of ice cream if you are craving sweets.
Eggs: You simply cannot beat eggs for protein. They have more digestible protein than any other natural protein source. Eggs are simply one of those muscle building foods you NEED! Scramble them up for a very quick, easy breakfast PACKED with protein. Take half a dozen eggs and slip them into a bowl. Whisk them into a frenzy. Throw in some sweet or hot peppers, onions, or even some broccoli is good. Eggs are packed with protein and not much fat at all. They're a great building block for the rest of your diet. Eggs provide just enough fat so that you can stave off your hunger and keep those nasty blood sugar spikes away.

Chicken Breasts: I could put steak here or any other meat, but chicken is the best in the meat category of muscle building foods. For one thing, boneless skinless chicken can be incorporated into SO MANY different meals, you really can't afford NOT to have it on hand. Chicken fajitas as just about as good as it gets. This mexican dish is almost a perfect muscle building meal.
Rich carbs from such sources as yams, rice, oatmeal, and potatoes are also included. The thing about carbs is that they possess what we call a protein sparring effect. Rather than chewing up your protein sources, which you need for building muscle, your body will eat up the carbs you take in. The problem with burning protein is that it is an expensive energy source compared to simple carbs. Carbs are especially crucial for naturally skinny hard gainers. If you're trying to gain muscle and you tend to be slender, then you really have to ramp up your carb consumption.

Better Nutrition requires post-training consumption of simple carbs and fat-free meals

As soon as you stop training, your body should be digesting simple sugars that you eat. Remember, do NOT eat or drink fatty foods following your workout. Fat hinders your body's ability to soak up nutrients right after you train. Post-training meals are crucial for your success at muscle building.

The rest of the day, consume fat in your diet

Post-training, you don't want your body's ability to soak up nutrients to be compromised. But the rest of the day, you actually do. If you don't eat fat, then your body will soak up what you eat very quickly. As a matter of fact, your body's pace will beat the rate that you can actually use them. So then your blood sugar rises and drops. This isn't good for your dieting efforts overall. But if you throw in a bit of fat with your meal, your body will stay steady. More essential nutrients will be absorbed into your body, giving it just what it needs, due to this consistent intake of fat.

Summary: Obviously there are a lot more muscle building foods than what I mentioned here, but this is a great start.
